Abdominal Ultrasound Appointment Preparation

Abdominal ultrasound is most commonly used to determine the cause of abdominal pain or other symptoms your doctor wishes to investigate not involving the stomach or bowel. Your gallbladder, pancreas, liver, spleen, kidneys, common bile duct and aorta will be examined during this scan.

Preparation:

  • Nothing to eat or drink for 8 hours prior to your appointment. No smoking or chewing gum after midnight (affects abdominal motion). You may brush your teeth in the morning.
  • You may take required medications in the morning with a small amount of water only.
  • Please report to the Ultrasound check-in 15 minutes before your appointment time.
  • You will receive a reminder call 1-2 days prior to your exam.

Note:  We charge $50.00 for missed appointments or for cancellations with less than 24 hours notice.
